Watershed Heroes- Actions Linking Education to Stewardship or WHALES is Coastkeeper’s year-round education program for middle and high school students in Orange County. Students explore watershed and ecological concepts in their own community through in-class lessons and field activities such as hikes, water quality testing, treatment plant tours, tide pool explorations, habitat restoration and more!

Kids Ocean Day is an annual celebration and call to action for the protection of the world’s oceans. Through a series of assemblies, a beach cleanup and aerial art display, elementary students from underserved areas of Orange County are empowered with the notion that their actions can incite change. Sponsored by the California Coastal Commission, Kids Ocean Day events are hosted throughout the state by different organizations.

Kids Care is Coastkeeper's solutions-based marine debris education program for elementary students in 3rd through 5th grade. Students learn in class about the dangers of marine debris, then take the problem into their own hands at a beach cleanup.

The Drought Response Outreach Program for Schools is a grant provided by the State Water Resources Control board to Garden Grove Unified School District. Coastkeeper is providing the Education and Outreach components at Santiago, Bolsa Grande, and Los Amigos High Schools. Coastkeeper's Education staff is developing curriculum to teach students about the Low Impact Design features and stormwater monitoring and analysis.
